Do you have a smaller vehicle? If so, your spare is probably a compact temporary one. These are also called donuts. They're small and constructed differently than larger spares so that they are light enough to be carried in small cars. This does affect their performance though. For safety, you'll need to drive slowly and replace your donut as soon as you can.
Larger vehicles require a bigger spare. Your SUV or truck can handle hauling a full-size spare tire, though it might take up a lot of room. A full-size spare can be driven on much longer than a donut.
