See How Ford F-150 Pulls Ahead vs. Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Here in Holland MI

There are a lot of new trucks to choose from all over the Holland area, making it tough to tell where to begin shopping. Our advice: the light-duty pickup segment, wherein you can find workhorses like Ford F-150 and Chevy Silverado 1500.

Both trucks are long-lived in the segment, have dedicated followings, and go full-size on towing and hauling capabilities. However, more tradespeople and off-roaders alike here in Michigan prefer one brand over the other, and that's Ford. You can see why here at Barber Ford -- we've made it easy to compare Ford F-150 to Chevy Silverado 1500.

Power: Ford F-150 accelerates more quickly and puts out more turning and pulling power for the daily Zeeland MI grind. Horsepower ratings run the gamut from 250 to 450, while torque ratings range from 265 to 510 pound-feet. Chevy Silverado only produces up to 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet. That makes Ford F-150 the harder worker.

Performance: Ford F-150 is a better off-roader outside of Allendale. Take the Raptor trim, for instance. It incorporates a high-output, twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, which can deliver 450 horsepower backed by 510 pound-feet of torque. Chevy Silverado 1500 offers comparable trims, such as Custom Trail Boss and LT Trail Boss, but they only get up to 385 horsepower and 383 pound-feet. You can only get those ratings with an optional and thirsty 5.3-liter V8. To even get close to Ford F-150, you'll need to upgrade to a 6.2-liter V8 at the top of the line. It's capable of 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet, but still only optional.

Capabilities: Ford F-150 is a class leader for both hauling and towing. Its ratings are a respective 3,270 pounds and 13,200 pounds. That makes it a work truck of choice for a full duty roster spanning from Hudsonville to Byron Center. Chevy Silverado 1500 only has 1,960-pound payload and 11,000-pound tow ratings respectively. You can reach a maximum 17,700 pounds, but only near the head of the line, only with the largest-capacity engine, only in four-wheel drive, and only with an available Max Trailering Package. That's quite an investment given that Ford F-150 is more affordable than Chevy Silverado 1500 to begin with.
